Francois Bergh

where lost words come to rest in pieces…

Sepia

Awash in tones of May
On a color-swindled day,
Let me slowly-gently drown
In these faded shades of brown…

As the dust of kinder times
Blows in winded gusting rhymes,
Let me fall from fishbone trees
As I’m herded with the leaves…

Let me kiss these final hours -
Let me say goodbye to flowers -
Take it, leave, and let me stay -
Who needs color anyway…

I enjoyed the opening stanza…a painting I’ve seen many times but now enjoy through your words.

a color-swindled day — oh, this is perfect. Love the use of language here.

I do, I do! The color all over my yard is like a cattle prod to my sleepy winter ass. I enjoyed this piece much!

Our green came back too quickly, and the flowers only lasted a minute. Sepia gives that time a whole new meaning. Really enjoyed it.

Everything’s in bloom here, so this is definitely an alternative May. Looks more like a May Not!

Especially liked your turns of a phrase with “color swindled day” and “fishbone trees.”

Colour is good – but all seasons have their particular beauty. Lovely, lovely words.
